Guinea Pig Homepage

Reba is my pet store, guinea pig that Eddy bought me after my beloved eight-year old guinea pig, Merle, died. She is a beautiful girl that gets regular baths and haircuts to control her unruly mane. Here she is catching some rays in the yard.

In 2000, there was a rescue of over 300 guinea pigs that were being mistreated by a laboratory supply breeder. The Humane Society seized all the guinea pigs and began looking for new homes. The veterinary hospital I work for took in 15 guinea pigs to help the effort. At the end of the summer two guinea pigs were left. I decided to take them and named them Lana (mother) and Lola (daughter). They were very unsocial, but I decided to take them as classroom pets. Over the years of kids feeding them snacks and holding them they became tame. Lola's mother, Lana, died of renal failure this summer, but Lola is doing great. Here she is begging for a snack.
